Vernelle H. Yoder

Vernelle H. Yoder, 94, of Berne passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born on July 26, 1924 in Adams County to Raymond and Ida (Habegger) Yoder.

She was a member of First Mennonite Church in Berne. She was a graduate of Hartford High School and received her bachelor’s degree in education from Fort Wayne Bible Institute. She served as a missionary in Colombia, South America for over 44 years. During that time, she was a teacher and director of three Mennonite schools under the Mennonite General Conference. After she returned home from the mission field, she had a heart for helping people in need.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Barbara Yoder of Berne; and nieces and nephews, Marilyn Averhart; Ray Yoder; Robert Yoder; Beverly Piper; Keith Yoder; Kevin Yoder; and Kyle Yoder.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Raymond, Jr. in infancy; and John, LeRoy, Jerry, and Harry Yoder; two sisters, Ilva and Evanna Yoder; niece, Linda Carpenter; and foster brother, Elwood David.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Monday, October 1 at Swiss Village Chapel in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Jeff Linthicum and Pastor Jerry Flueckiger. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
