Valentine Shetler

Valentine J. Shetler, 83, of rural Berne passed away Saturday, October 31, 2020, at 5:40 a.m. at his residence. He was born Wednesday, April 28, 1937, in Fredericksburg, Ohio to Jacob L. and Amanda (Hershberger) Shetler. He was married Thursday, November 27, 1958, to Sylvia K. Hilty.
He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. He worked as a carpenter for many years.
He is survived by his wife of Berne; nine sons, Milton V. (Leah) Shetler of Kentucky; Tim V. (Maggie) Shetler; Jake V. (Anna) Shetler; Sam V. (Laura) Shetler; Mose V. (Margaret) Shetler; and Eli V. (Margaret) Shetler, all of Berne; Dan V. (Anna) Shetler of Portland; and John V. (Leah) Shetler; and Valentine V. (Susie) Shetler, both of Geneva; six daughters, Effie V. (Mennow) Coblentz of Portland; Esther V. (Jake) Eicher of Kentucky; Rebecca V. (Chris) Graber; and Rosie V. (Toby) Hilty, both of Geneva; and Marie V. (Jonie) Graber; and Lucy V. (John) Hilty, both of Berne; brother, Mose J. (Elizabeth) Shetler of LaGrange; sister, Fannie J. (Alvin) Hilty of Indiana; 162 grandchildren; and 188 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers; two sisters; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation was Sunday, November 1 from 2-8 p.m. and will be Monday, November 2 from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. at his residence, 2406W 350S, Berne. Funeral service will be Tuesday, November 3 at 9 a.m. at the residence. Officiating will be Bishop Marvin L. Hilty. Burial will be at Schwartz Cemetery in Adams County.
