Thomas E. Stewart, Jr.

Thomas E. Stewart, Jr., 77, of Berne passed away Monday, January 11, 2021, at Chalet Village in Berne. He was born July 21, 1943, in Dayton, Kentucky. He was married January 4, 1986, in Clarkston, Georgia to Malonna K. “Loni” Gerber Mikkelson.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Berne and was involved with Compassionate Ministries. He served as president of the MRE Cemetery Board for 2020.
He retired as a bus driver after 35 years from Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) in Atlanta, Georgia. He was an executive for the Amalgamated Transit Union. He had also driven for public busing in Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati, Ohio.
He enjoyed bird watching and puzzles and loved to travel and stay at bed and breakfasts. He was also an avid reader.
He is survived by his wife of Berne; two sons, Ronald Paul (Jane) Stewart of Liberty Township, Ohio; and James Richard Stewart of Maui, Hawaii; daughter, Debra Ann (Steve) Barbieri of Cary, North Carolina; two brothers, Richard (Kathy) Stewart of Fresno, California; and James Stewart of Lawrenceville, Georgia; sister, Rose (Paul) Kravitz of Newport, Kentucky; two step-daughters, Maria Mikkelson of Atlanta, Georgia; and Selina (Dennis) Bell of Ridgeville, Connecticut; step-son, Matthew Mikkelson of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Jake Stewart; and Brittany and Brandon Barbieri; and three step-grandchildren, Jessica, Cassidy and Savannah Bell.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Joann Duell.
Visitation will be Friday, January 15 from 2-5 p.m. at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne and one hour prior to the 2 p.m. funeral service Saturday, January 16 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Mark Walus and Pastor Chris Kruchkow. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
