Thomas Cincotta

Thomas “Tom” Richard Cincotta, 61, a resident of Bluffton and formerly of Mount Sterling, Kentucky and Geneva, passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2021. He was born May 14, 1959, in Penn Yan, New York to Tony and Sheila Cincotta. He was marred in October 1986 at Cross United Church of Christ in Berne to Joni Sprunger.
He spent his early childhood among the Finger Lakes of rural New York. Many of his extended family vacationed together in his hometown of Penn Yan in the summer of 2017, and it was apparent why his love of the outdoors endured throughout his lifetime. Beautiful, rocky lakes against a backdrop of heavily wooded hills left an impression that he would enjoy sharing with others for the rest of his life.
He moved to Geneva with his family in the 1970s. His father helped to develop Lake of the Woods and built their new family home there. Upon graduating from South Adams High School, he moved to Laramie, Wyoming, where he graduated from Wyoming Technical Institute and then to Houston, Texas. He made friendships that would last into adulthood and met his wife.
He took pride in his work as a maintenance technician, and through many years of continued training and education, established himself as a controls engineer in the automotive industry. As a sort of renaissance man, there were few things he couldn’t do. From cooking to construction, from playing guitar to fixing cars, he enjoyed hosting family and pitching in on someone’s latest home project.
Always investing and sharing in the interests of his children, he didn’t miss a sporting event or an opportunity to help them pursue their hobbies and interests. You could find him working on four-wheelers, fishing, shooting or camping with Austin; the next minute tuning guitars, installing a car stereo system or fabricating a camera slider for Tori.
You can’t fit a life into an obituary, but his story was a good one. Anyone who knew him well will have a hilarious story to share. If you need a laugh, just ask a close friend or relative for their favorite Tom story.
He is survived by his wife; two children, Austin (Maranda) Cincotta of Canfield, Ohio; and Tori (Amanda Volle) Cincotta of Penryn, California; three grandchildren, Addison, Leo and Griffin Cincotta; three siblings, Toni (Rick) Beymer of Zionsville; Tim (William) Cincotta of Sarasota, Florida; and George (Kathy) Cincotta of Sugarland, Texas; and his many beloved nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
