Thelma Arnold

Thelma Arnold, 95, of Decatur passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur. She was born on March 2, 1923 in Adams County to John D. and Sarah (Lautzenheiser) Tinkham. She was married on December 21, 1942 in Adams County to Eugene Arnold.

She graduated from Willshire High School in 1941. She was a member of the Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren, where she served on the Christian Education Board and was the chair in 1978. She was also a member of the Family Life Committee, Nominating Committee, Women’s Fellowship and she taught Sunday school. She belonged to the Kirkland Home Extension Club. She worked at Adams Central Schools retiring as head cook in 1992 after 25 years of service. She loved traveling, gardening, reading, and attending many activities and sporting events of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Phil (Robin) Arnold of Fort Wayne; three daughters, Judy (Rodney) Clark of Elkhart; and Connie (Jeff) Shady; and Rhonda (Larry) Tom, both of Decatur; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on October 10, 2001; grandson, Jack Haney in 1983; six sisters; and one brother.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service on Thursday, May 3 at Pleasant Dale Church of the Brethren. Officiating will be Rev. Jay Carter. Burial will be at Pleasant Dale Cemetery.  

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Dale Church Building Fund.
