Ruth Schwartz

Ruth E. Schwartz, 90, of Berne passed away Saturday, May 2, 2020, at her residence. She was born November 4, 1929, in Adams County to Samuel E. and Emily E. (Schwartz) Eicher. She was married October 23, 1950, in Noblesville to Solomon B. Schwartz.
She was a hard-working woman, mother and housewife, who loved to cook. She was a mother-figure to not only her nine children but also to many other family members and will be remembered as someone who never met a stranger and enjoyed meeting new people. She was a member of the Berne Evangelical Church and enjoyed being part of the church ladies’ group Supper Sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Sonja (Mike) Kelly of Berne; seven sons, Robert (Becky) Schwartz; and Chris (Naundus) Schwartz, both of Bluffton; Steve (Christy) Schwartz of South Lyon, Michigan; Myron (Liz) Schwartz of Celina, Ohio; Anthony (Michelle) Schwartz of Bluemont, Virginia; Kevin (Shekinah) Schwartz of Asheville, North Carolina; and David (Charla) Schwartz of Muncie; six brothers, Samuel E. (Barbra) Eicher of Woodburn; Joseph E. (Margret) Eicher of Grabill; Jacob E. (Anna) Eicher of Dade City, Florida; Benjamin E. (Betty) Eicher of Topeka; Reuben E. (Leanna) Eicher of Quincy, Michigan; and Amos E. (Edna) Eicher of Cambria, Wisconsin; four sisters, Malinda E. Brandenburger of Shipshewana; Clara E. Hart of Monroeville; Rosie E. Kopplin of Decatur; and Mary E. Everidge of Bluffton; 26 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on December 5, 2007; son, Donald Schwartz in February 2020; three sisters, Emma E. Schwartz; Elizabeth J. “Babe” Steuary; and Verena E. Schrock; and brother, Melvin E. Eicher.
Private family visitation will be held at the Berne Evangelical Church. A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 7 at 2:30 p.m. at the church. Officiating will be Pastor Kevin Schwartz and Rev. Bruce Rocke.
