Ruth G. Harvey

Ruth Genevieve Harvey, 88, died peacefully on Monday, September 19, 2016 at Baylor Scott and White Hospital and was immediately ushered into the presence of her Lord, whom she had loved for 81 years. She was born on February 12, 1928 in Berne to Tillman and Edna (Spiehiger) Lehman. She was the second oldest of 10 children and spent her growing up years in Berne before attending college at Bob Jones University, where she met her husband of 54 years, James David Harvey. Together they served the Lord in the pastorate and in missions for over 40 years, ministering in Georgia, Colorado, Brazil, Indiana, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Iowa.

From early childhood through her adult years, she loved to read (and if you didn't want her to read it, don't leave it lying on the counter). She also loved to sew, and in recent years, spent many hours scrapbooking. She “looked well to the ways of her household, and did not eat the bread of idleness”. On any given day after Bible reading and prayer, she selflessly launched into the task of rolling newspapers for her sons, to help them save time on their paper routes. She did mountains of laundry and provided sit-down meals for her family every night and twice on Sunday. In her free time, she sewed her children’s clothes, did countless household chores, helped with homework, gardened, shoveled snow (in her dress), and taught Sunday school, all without complaining. It is no surprise that her children “arise up and call her blessed”.

She is survived by eight children, Steve (Cathy); Dave; Yvonne (Russ); Jon (Charlene); Noel (Sandy); Anita (Kim); Brenda (Mark); Teresa (Randy); 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.

She was preceded in death by parents; her husband; two granddaughters; two grandsons; three sisters; and two brothers.

Visitation will be three hours prior to the 3:00 p.m. funeral service on Monday, September 26 at Beverly Community Church in Beverly, Kansas. Burial will be at Lincoln City Cemetery.
