Ronald G. Spade, Sr.

Ronald G. Spade, Sr., 83, of Berne passed away at 11:19 a.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at home. He was born on Wednesday, February 7, 1934 in Bluffton to Glenn and Elizabeth (Ebnit) Spade. He was married on Saturday, April 19, 1969 in Phoenix, Arizona to Patricia B. Parker.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from Taylor University with a Master’s of education and taught for several years at South Adams. He was a former junior high basketball coach and track coach at South Adams. He was a member of the Indiana Teachers Association, South Adams teachers PAC committee, and the Edelweiss Singers. He was a member of the First Mennonite Church of Berne, where he was very active in the church youth and music ministries. 

He is survived by his wife of Berne; son, Ron Spade, II of Decatur; three daughters, Tricia (Mike) Spade Howard of South Whitley; and Marisa (Monty) Spade Goldston; and Heidi (Jon) Spade Zapolski, both of Lebanon, Ohio; brother, Don Spade of Berne; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be three hours prior to the 7:00 p.m. funeral service on Friday, December 29 at First Mennonite Church, 566 W. Main St., Berne. Officiating will be Rev. Jerry Flueckiger.
