Rolland D. McCune

Rolland Dale McCune, 85, of Sarasota, Florida passed away on Monday, June 17, 2019 at his home in Sarasota. He was born on June 3, 1934 in Adams County to Dale and Edna (Sherry) McCune. He was married on August 29, 1952 to Daisy Heller.

He pastored churches in Missouri and Indiana and had interim pastorates in Indiana, Minnesota, Iowa and Michigan. As a Baptist seminary professor for 42 years, he taught various courses in theology and Old Testament. He received the Doctor of Theology degree and two honorary Doctor of Divinity degrees.

He enjoyed studying the history and geography of the Bible during his numerous trips to the Middle East. He authored many theological articles and wrote books on the topics of systematic theology and American evangelicalism.

He is survived by his wife of Sarasota; two sons, Kevin (Gwen) McCune of Venice, Florida; and Kenton (Erin) McCune of Allen Park, Michigan; daughter, Karla Lengacher of Naples, Florida; sister, Patricia Christian of Sinton, Texas; seven grandchildren, Joel McCune; Kipling (Stephanie) McCune; Justin McCune; Chadwick (Sarah) McCune; Brittany (Trey) Evans; Chelsea (Bryce) Pegram; and Dane Lengacher; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Nancy Neuenschwander.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 12 in Sunnyside Chapel at Sunnyside Village in Sarasota. Officiating will be Chaplain Jarvis Hochstedler. Burial will be at a later date at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
