Rebecca Sorg

Rebecca “Becky” Lynn Sorg, 73, of Indianapolis passed away Monday, Feb. 20, 2023, at home. She was born Oct. 9, 1949, in South Bend. Her parents were J. Benjamin Wolfe and P. Joyce Richards. She was married to Kirk Sorg.
She graduated from South Bend Riley High School and went on to study and receive her Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from Manchester College. She later obtained her Master’s Degree in education from Indiana University. She was a member of The Creek Church in Indianapolis.
Her teaching career spanned four decades and included stops in Mishawaka, Goshen and Berne. She taught at South Adams Elementary from 1985 through 2008. She loved teaching and providing a positive impact in the lives of all of her students. In 2008, she retired from teaching to travel with her husband and spend time with their beloved grandchildren.
As a devoted coach’s wife to her husband, she enjoyed many years of attending sporting events, particularly high school football games. She was a fan of all sports.
Through her many connections in education, involvement in sports and years of active participation in her church, she made an immeasurable impact on the lives of so many individuals and families, more than her close family and friends even knew.
She is survived by her two sons, Jason (Suzannah) Sorg; and Jeff (Sonda) Sorg; brother, Kenneth (Priscilla) Wolfe; sister-in-law, Lara Wolfe; five grandchildren, Jocelyn, Alex, Cooper, Madeleine and William Sorg; her beloved nieces and nephews; and of course, her cherished and loyal shih tzu, Toby, who provided love and companionship especially during the pandemic.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sister, Kathy Zentz; and two brothers, Russell Wolfe; and Richard Wolfe.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the 1 p.m. memorial gathering Thursday, March 2 at The Creek Church in Indianapolis.
