Phyllis Lehrman

Phyllis J. Acheson Lehrman, 99, of Decatur passed into the loving arms of Jesus Friday, December 10, 2021, at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur after a weeklong stay, where she was held and prayed over by members of her family. She was born May 22, 1922, in Berne to Floyd B. and Esther (Binz) Hunter. She was married July 3, 1943, to John E. “Jud” Acheson. He preceded her in death June 5, 1974. She was married August 31, 1985, to Daniel Lehrman. He preceded her in death February 14, 1996.
She was a 1940 graduate of Decatur High School. She then went to Van Wert Vocational School for one year to become an LPN and attended Wright State University. She attended various churches throughout her life, most recently at Decatur Church of God. She worked for most of her nursing career for Dr. Merrill Osborn in Willshire, Ohio. She also worked as an industrial nurse at Federal Mogul in Van Wert, Ohio and at CTS in Berne. Her very first job was at the Decatur Daily Democrat.
She is survived by three daughters, Gayle Hey of Fort Wayne; and Beth Montgomery; and Jeannie Acheson, both of Decatur; two sons, John “Eric” Acheson of Van Wert, Ohio; and Thomas (Cheryl) Acheson of Wren, Ohio; two step-sons, Ronald (Marcia) Lehrman of Brownsburg; and Thomas (Barbara) Lehrman of Decatur; step-daughter, Mary Ann (Randy) Steiner of Fort Wayne; sister-in-law, Joan Hunter of Ocala, Florida; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild yet to come.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-son, Roger Lehrman; sister, Betty Fager; and brother, Robert B. Hunter.
Visitation will be three hours prior to the 3 p.m. celebration of life service Wednesday, December 15 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur. Officiating will be Pastor Don Smith. Burial will be at Willshire Cemetery at a later date.
