Philip Nussbaum

Philip “Junior” James Nussbaum, 86, took his last breath on this earth Friday, August 12, 2022, and the next breath was in the presence of Jesus in Heaven. He was born February 22, 1936, in Monroe to Philip and Margaret (Steury) Nussbaum. He was married May 5, 1990, at Berne Evangelical Mennonite Church in Berne to Martha J. Rife.
He was a 1954 high school graduate from Adams Central. He went to International Business College and received an Associate’s Degree in accounting. He was employed at Central Soya (Bunge) for 45 years in capacities of financial analyst and consultant. He proudly served in the United States Army Indiana National Guard from April 8, 1958 until April 7, 1964. He liked financial analytical projects as well as hunting, fishing, water skiing and spending time with the family at the lake.
He grew up in the Berne Evangelical Mennonite Church and asked Jesus to become his saviour as a boy. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Angola where he sang in the choir. He was also a member and treasurer of Crusoe Point Association. His life verse was Proverbs 3:5-6. He loved the Lord and sang Gospel music his entire life with solos, quartets, choirs and leading music in church services.
He loved to be at Lake James as a boy, throughout his adult life and was able to retire at the lake while enjoying fishing and waterskiing with his family.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Timothy (Kristina) Nussbaum; and Mark (Tina) Nussbaum; daughter, Kristina Stump; sister-in-law, Edna Nussbaum; seven grandchildren, Ciera Nussbaum; Marisa (Brent) Trammel; Tisha Stump; CeCe Stump; Kasi (Mike) Muir; Issy Stump; and Sami Stump; and seven great-grandchildren, Kayden Schreiner; Stetson Muir; Wesson Muir; Holland Muir; Ali Stump; Easton Stump; and Paisley Grabowska.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Leroy and Elroy Nussbaum; and sister, Lorena Lichtenberger.
Visitation will be Friday, August 19 from 4-7 p.m. at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel, 365 W. Main St., Berne and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, August 20 at Berne Evangelical Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Bruce Rocke. Burial will be at the church cemetery. For those unable to attend, the service will be livestreamed on the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home page. Following the service, it will be available on the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home website.
