Opal Muth

Opal “Lavaun” Muth, 94, of Fort Wayne passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2020. She was born March 27, 1926, in Jay County to Russell and Jessie (Grile) Keller. She was married to Walter J. Muth.
She was a graduate from the Ball State Teacher’s College. She was a home economics teacher at Geneva High School, where she was a class sponsor and influenced many students over the years. She later served as a guidance counselor at South Adams High School. Finally, she worked for Fort Wayne Community Schools doing psychometric testing before retiring. She was a member at Calvary United Methodist Church and later attended Taylor Chapel United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. She was a skilled seamstress creating many of her own pieces of clothing. She will be remembered as a wonderful cook, always creating flavorful and balanced meals. Another fond memory will be her love for her family, of which she always made an effort to be at their activities.
She is survived by two sons, Bob (Muriel) Muth; and Tom Muth; two grandsons, Joshua (Megan) Muth; and Nathan Muth; two great grandchildren, Griffin and Collins; and two sisters, Anna Shoemaker; and Jean Davis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Dorwin and Ernest Keller.
A private family service will be held. Entombment will be at Covington Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church.
