Minnie Mertz

Minnie C. Mertz, 96, of Berne passed away Thursday, October 1, 2020, at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born September 12, 1924, in Adams County to Cyrus and Amanda (Breauchy) Steiner. She was married March 2, 1947, to Ferris A. Mertz.
She was a member of West Missionary Church in Berne and was very active in the children’s ministry. She was a homemaker and instrumental to her husband on the family farm. She was a gifted quilter and made each of her grandchildren a quilt for their graduation and the first born great-grandchildren a baby quilt.  She was an amazing cook and baker. She enjoyed hosting family and friends at her home.
She is survived by three daughters, Rosalyn “Jean” Moser of Kokomo; and Marcia (Jamie) Cressman and Janet (Troy) Lehman, both of Berne; son, Michael (Sandy) Mertz of Geneva; ten grandchildren, Tamara (Mike) Brier; Michelle Moser; Lisa (Andy) Brotherton; Karla (Jeremiah) Lipscomb; Jennifer (Dr. Matt) Will; Jaime (Kraig) Beitler; Kelly (Aaron) Pence; Eric Lehman; Ken (Allie) Lehman; and Kristi (Dustin) Cressman; 23 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on April 8, 2005; three brothers, Victor Steiner; Ernest Steiner; and Jarvis Steiner; sister, Marcella Huether; and two sons-in-law, Dean Von Gunten and Gerald Moser.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the 3 p.m. funeral service on Sunday, October 4 at West Missionary Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Keith Rupp. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
