Millard A. Habegger

Millard A. Habegger, 82, of Boulder, Colorado passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 following a long, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on January 30, 1934 in Adams County to Amos H. and Sarah C. (Mazelin) Habegger. He was married on February 23, 1964 to Nancy Schurr of Lafayette.

He attended Adams Central High School and was valedictorian of his graduating class. He continued his education at Purdue University and received his undergraduate and graduate degrees in physics from Purdue and Caltech, including a Ph.D. in solid state physics.

He accepted employment with IBM in Poughkeepsie, New York, and after he married his wife, they moved to Poughkeepsie. Several years later, they moved to Boulder, Colorado, where he continued to work with IBM until his retirement. He was issued 15 patents related to his work at IBM and three more for work he did independently.

He enjoyed working in his well-stocked workshop experimenting with and creating new products. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife; son, Jay (Christine) Habegger of Scituate, Massachusetts; daughter, Robyn (Barry) Klarman of Edmonds, Washington; four grandchildren, Callie and Casey Habegger of Scituate, Massachusetts; and Alex and Elyse Klarman of Edmonds, Washington; two sisters, Marie (Virgil) Strahm of Elkhart; and Arlene Mast of Berne; and brother, Merlin (Jane) Habegger of Niceville, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, James Mast.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 20 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Longmont, Colorado.
