Marvin Taylor

Marvin A. Taylor, 88, of Monroe passed away Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur. He was born Nov. 14, 1935, in Hoagland to Roy and Susie (Perry) Taylor. He was married Sep. 2, 1956, at Monroe Methodist Church to Carolyn Kae Christener.
He served in the United States Army for two years of active duty and 10 years in the Army Reserve. He also served 13 years in the Navy Reserve. He was a member of Monroe Lighthouse, serving his church in many ways. He was also a member of the Adams County Zoning Board.
He graduated from Adams Central High School in 1953. In his early life, he worked on a farm for the Yost family where the current Adams Woodcrest is located. He also worked for Christener Plumbing (Kae’s father). He was a mechanic at Moser Motors in Berne. He finished up his career driving semi for Monroe Grain and serving as pastor of the New Corydon United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed coin collecting and making and sharing his woodworking with others. He was greatly loved by both his and his wife’s nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his wife of Monroe; three daughters, Joy Taylor; and Jana Taylor, both of Monroe; and Susan (Fred) Roehs of Bluffton; sister, Virginia Hakes of Decatur; brother, James (Sharon) Taylor of Decatur; brother-in-law, Dale Gaskill of Fort Wayne; two grandchildren, Matthew Roehs; and Kristen Lauria; and two great-grandchildren, Charles and Catherine Lauria.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Benjamin Roehs; brother, Roy Taylor; and three sisters, Ruby Hale, Rheba Eichhorn and Sabina Gaskill.
Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 21 from 2-7:30 p.m. and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, Dec. 22 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur. Officiating will be Pastor David Myers. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #43 of Decatur.
