M. Lawrence Smith

M. Lawrence Smith, 93, of Upper Frederick Township, Pennsylvania passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Frederick Living in Frederick, Pennsylvania. He was born on September 15, 1923 in Berne to Martin L. and Jennie A. (Tinkham) Smith.  He was married on March 17, 1967 in Quakertown, Pennsylvania to Marlene J. Ruth.

He was the administrator for the Frederick Mennonite Community, now Frederick Living, for 25 years. He also served as the United States Army Chaplain’s assistant, was pastor of Saucon New Mennonite Church in Coopersburg, Pennsylvania and worked for the Arrow Camera Shop in Pottstown, Pennsylvania for 10 years.

He served his country honorably as a corporal in the United States Army. He was a longtime, faithful member of Trinity E.C. Church in Boyertown, Pennsylvania, where he played piano and organ for many years. He also played piano for Bethany EC Church in Pleasantville, Pennsylvania and played organ and piano for East Swamp New Mennonite Church in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. He was a 1941 graduate of Berne High School in Berne and a 1956 graduate of the Philadelphia College of the Bible.

He is survived by his wife; son, Donald L. (Lisa M.) Smith of Port Matilda, Pennsylvania; daughter, Deborah C. (Robert S.) Seasholtz of Green Lane, Pennsylvania; and eight grandchildren, Sarah (Austin); Rebekah; David; Julia; David; Nathaniel; Ilse; and Konrad.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Wednesday, April 12 at Trinity E.C. Church, 250 Sweinhart Rd, Boyertown, Pennsylvania 19512. Officiating will be Pastor John Friedlund.
