Lydia A. Lehman

Lydia A. Lehman, 88, of Berne passed away on Monday, July 23, 2018 at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born on November 2, 1929 in Versailles, Missouri to Daniel and Elma (Aschbacher) Garber. She was married on April 16, 1949 to Peter Lehman.

She was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Berne. She worked at Palmer House for 22 years, was employed at Earthen Treasures, and was also a custodian at the Berne City Building. She enjoyed gardening, caring for her flowers, sewing, quilting, and listening to southern gospel music.

She is survived by three sons, Malcohm Lehman; and Olin Lehman, both of Berne; and Gaylord “Pete” Lehman of Decatur; four daughters, Carol Lehman of Berne; Sandra (Charles) Fowler of Noblesville; Gail Lengerich of Decatur; and Erma Garringer of Mt. Ridge, Kansas; 11 grandchildren, Jeff (Alyse) Lehman; Jule (Robert) Buuck; Jodi (Aaron) Sluder; Jeanene Lehman; Joe Lehman; Brant (Maile) Fowler; Doug Lehman; Craig Lehman; Abigail Tumbleson; Cati Crum; and Spencer Lehman; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 2000; and three brothers, D. Clifford Garber; Vernon “Gabby” Garber; and Laurel Garber.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 28 at the Swiss Village chapel and one hour prior to the 2:00 p.m. funeral service on Sunday, July 29 at the First Mennonite Church chapel. Officiating will be Pastor James Schwartz. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
