Lillian S. Gilruth, 95, of Berne passed away Monday, August 30, 2021, at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born January 10, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois to John and Antoinette Sposta. She was married to Thomas W. Gilruth.
She was a lifelong educator. Following her graduation from high school, she graduated from Roosevelt University with a bachelor of arts in education. She continued her education and completed her master’s degree in education at Roosevelt University. She was the arts teacher at Downers Grove South High School in Downers Grove, Illinois for over 20 years retiring in 1987. She enjoyed weaving, traveling, cooking and baking.
She is survived by two sons, Charles Gilruth of Fort Wayne; and Peter Gilruth of Sawyer, Michigan; four grandsons, John T. Gilruth; Thomas Gilruth; Mukiri Gilruth; and Macune Gilruth; and two granddaughters, Corinne Parrett; and Erin Gilruth.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1996; son, John Gilruth; and sister, Doris Sposta.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Michigan following cremation.
