LeRoy M. Bohnke

LeRoy M. Bohnke, 73, of Decatur passed away on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur following an extended illness. He was born on Saturday, August 25, 1945 in Decatur to Christ and Louise (Bleeke) Bohnke. He was married on October 17, 1970 at Mt. Hope Church of the Nazarene in Berne to Deloris Frank.

He served his country during peacetime in the United States Army Reserves. He was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church – Decatur, where he had held many offices over the years.

He was a lifelong farmer in Union Township. In addition, he retired from BAE Systems (formerly GE Aircraft) in Fort Wayne in 2005 after 36 years of service. Farming was in his blood. Throughout his life, the farm was his focus.

In addition to traveling, he was also a lifelong IU fan and enjoyed watching and attending IU basketball games. He tinkered and fixed many things around the house. He was always looking for something to do to help others. He loved his family and friends, and the time spent with them was priceless.

He is survived by his wife; son, Chad (Nickole) Bohnke of Fort Wayne; daughter, Janelle (Daniel) Staub of Decatur; four sisters, Marilyn (Doyle) Scott of Hoagland; Darlene (Walter) Leuenberger Jr. of Fremont; and Leona (Paul) Busse Jr.; and Dorothy (Wayne) Kirchner, both of Decatur; and three grandchildren, Alexus Bohnke; Lily-Anne Bohnke; and Maddux Bohnke.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Aaron Lee Bohnke; daughter, Shelly Annette Bohnke; two brothers, Franklin Bohnke; and Allen Bohnke; and sister, Lorene Reinking.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 10 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service on Thursday, October 11 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Decatur. Officiating will be Pastor David Koeneman. Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
