Larry Sheets

Larry Allen Sheets, 86, of Millersburg, Ohio went to be with his Lord Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at Danbury Senior Living. He was born August 24, 1935, to Harry Allen and Dorothy (Cook) Sheets of Louisville, Ohio. He was married for 64 years to Jean Lehman.
He received a bachelor’s degree in education from Taylor University and a master’s degree in science from Ball State University. He was the youth secretary at the Kokomo YMCA for two years prior to teaching and coaching football for six years at Pettit Park Junior High School in Kokomo. He moved to Berne in 1966 and taught earth science and advanced biology at South Adams High School for 29 years. He also served as an assistant varsity football coach. He was an active member of the Berne Rotary Club. He was a deacon, teacher and member of the men’s chorus at the First Mennonite Church in Berne. In the summer months, he helped his father-in-law on his farm.
His life long fascination with planes culminated when he became a private pilot in the late 1980s and received his instrument rating in 1992.
In 1995, he retired to Lake Buckhorn near Millersburg. He served on the lake water board for many years. Other than his family and church, there is nothing he loved more than to take family and friends out fishing and boating. He was an active member of the Millersburg Mennonite Church, where he served as treasurer for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed providing the fish for the annual Mother’s Day fish fry.
He liked to travel including many Canadian fishing trips. He also enjoyed reading, building his HO model train layout, working in his woodshop and mowing his lawn.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Kathy (Andy) Hart; and Beth Sheets, his dedicated caregiver; three granddaughters, Emily (James) Ekdahl; Abby (Rodrigo Zeledon) Hart; and Betsy (Kavin) Ley; two great-grandsons, Bryn Ley; and Gabriel Zeledon Hart; two sisters, Karen (Don) Parsons; and Linda Hannan; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth D. Sheets; and great-grandson, Asher Joseph Ley.
A private family service will be held and burial will take place at Martin’s Creek Cemetery. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
