Larry Hanni

Larry B. Hanni, 88, of Indianapolis passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at his home. He was born May 8, 1936, in Geneva to Menno and Sylvia Hanni. He was married Aug. 2, 1956, in Elkhart to Marilyn Baker.
He graduated from Geneva High School in 1954. He graduated from Indiana Central College (University of Indianapolis) in 1958 and completed his Master’s Degree at Indiana University. He worked as a teacher, coach, athletic director and administrator for Franklin Township Schools and Lawrence Township Schools for 50 years. He served as an NFL timer for the Indianapolis Colts for 32 years, timing Super Bowl XLVI in 2012. He was named National High School Athletic Director of the Year in 1979, and he received the Sagamore of the Wabash and the Key to the City of Indianapolis in 1980. He was inducted into the University of Indianapolis Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Franklin Township Wall of Fame in 2019. He was a longtime member of Southminster Presbyterian Church where he served faithfully as an elder for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years; two sons, Jeff (Carrie) Hanni; and Brad (Lisa) Hanni; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert B. Hanni; sister, Phyllis Armstrong Cress; niece, Beth Armstrong; and four nephews, Dave Armstrong; Bob Hanni; Cary Hanni; and Kevin Hanni.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, June 29 at 1 p.m. in the Robert L. Mason Auditorium at Franklin Central High School. Casual sports-themed attire is requested. Burial will be held at a later date at West Lawn Cemetery in Geneva.
Memorials may be made to the Hanni Family Scholarship at the University of Indianapolis.
