Larry Elick

Larry G. Elick, 83, of Geneva and a longtime Portland resident passed away Saturday, June 29, 2019 at his home. He was born April 23, 1936 in Portland to Arthur D. and Inez (Corle) Elick. He was married January 24, 1959 to Pat Hutson. 

He was retired from Jay County Hospital as a medical technician after 43 years. He was a 1954 Portland High School graduate and graduate of St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. He was an artist and member of Indiana World Organization of Porcelain Artists, founding member of Associated Artists of Jay County, registered member of Medical Technologists and American Society of Clinical Pathologists. He and his wife were avid ballroom dancers and he enjoyed playing the organ. 

He is survived by his wife; son, Todd Elick of Fort Wayne; daughter, Camille (Pete) Elick-Shawver of Geneva; three grandsons, Tyler Bash; Blake Elick; and Trent Bash; one great-grandson, Graham Elick; and one niece, Sue Bowers of Muncie. 

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2 and two hours prior to the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Wednesday, July 3 at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home at 221 North Meridian Street in Portland. Pastor Joe Hines will officiate. Burial will follow in the Center Cemetery. 

Memorials may be made to Lutheran Hospital Kidney Transplant Patient Assistance Program or Shriner's Children Hospital of Chicago.
