Kathryn Loy

Kathryn “Christeen” Loy, 103, beloved kindergarten teacher, loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday March 9, 2019 with loved ones by her side. She was a long time resident of Bryant. She was born on February 25, 1916 in Geneva to Elmer and Minnie (Burk) Stuber. She was preceded in death by her first husband, William H. Parr in 1943. She later married William W. Loy who preceded her in death in 1990.

She was a graduate of Jefferson Township High School and Ball State Teachers College in 1935. She earned a degree in elementary education and taught kindergarten for 18½ years at Bloomfield Elementary School in Bryant. She was an active life long member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bryant. She loved music and liked playing the organ and piano, making blankets and always willing to help with all the various projects in the church. She also enjoyed the Bible study.

She was blessed with exceptional health throughout her life. She liked to live the lighter yet active life. She will be known for her gentle strength, kindness of heart and a quiet wisdom. She leaves a legacy of grace and love which impacted all of whom she interacted. She will not be forgotten by all that made her acquaintance. She will ever be remembered for her generous spirit, her soulful smile, her sunny personality, her love for family and children. She was a people person and fun to be with. To know her is to love her and what a blessing she has been for so many years.

She is survived by two daughters, Joyce Ann (Robert C.) Lyons of Portland; and Linda (Richard) Huey of Virginia Beach, Virginia; two sons, Billy (Ginger) Loy of Calhoun, Georgia; and Steven (Jacki) Loy of Crawfordsville; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and four nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jean Lautzenhiser; and brother, Robert G. Stuber.

Visitation will be three hours prior to the 1:00 p.m. funeral service on Saturday, March 16 at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland. Officiating will be Pastor George Mercer and Pastor Martin Bornhoeft. Burial will be at Gravel Hill Cemetery west of Bryant.
