Karen S. Vance

Karen S. Vance, 77, of Swiss Village in Berne, formerly of Portland, passed away Friday, January 4, 2019. She was born on July 7, 1941 in Anderson to Darwin H. and Mozelle (Weaver) Woodruff. She was married on November 24, 1962 to Bob Vance.

She graduated from Summitville Indiana High School in 1958 and Ball Memorial School of Nursing in Muncie in 1962. She worked as an RN at Jay County Hospital, Persimmon Ridge, and Randolph Nursing and Rehabilitation. She was co-owner of Vance Heating and Cooling and Indoor Comfort by Vance.

She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, the Asbury Joy Circle and the Round Table Sunday School Class. She served on the board of the Pregnancy Care Center of Jay County.

She is survived by husband; son, Robert E. (Jinnie) Vance, Jr. of Yorktown; three daughters, Lori A. (Steve) McIntosh; and Lana K. (Melvin) Hilty, both of Portland; and Lisa S. (Matt) Rudy of Naples, Florida; five grandsons, Mark (Michelle) McIntosh of Berne; Ben (Brittany) Vance; Joe Hilty; and Isaac Hilty, all of Portland; and Jonathan Rudy of Naples, Florida; three granddaughters, Abbey (Sam) Juday of Yorktown; Elizabeth Rudy of Naples Florida; and Kaitlyn Hilty of Portland; three great-grandsons Jace and Dax Vance of Portland; and soon to be born Sylyas Juday of Yorktown; and three great-granddaughters, Madalyn and Merritt McIntosh of Berne; and Paylin Vance of Portland.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Darwin (Woody) Woodruff.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 11 at Baird-Freeman Funeral Home in Portland and one hour prior to the 10:00 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, January 12 at Asbury United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Green Park Cemetery.
