Karen Cook-Ellenberger

Karen J. Cook-Ellenberger, 72, of Decatur passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at her residence. She was born January 7, 1949, in Fort Wayne to Harold and May (Hill) Myers. She was married September 15, 1968, to Don Cook. He preceded her in death March 12, 2017. She was married October 25, 2019, to Greg J. Ellenberger.
She was a 1968 graduate of Adams Central High School Class and a 1984 graduate of Decatur Beauty College. She was a beautician and owned and operated Karen’s Hair Gallery in Decatur for many years, retiring in 2018. She also owned and operated Loves Nest Catering in Decatur prior to working as a beautician.
She attended New Beginnings Faith Center in Decatur and was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority. She enjoyed crafts, cooking and making afghan blankets along with doing hair and nails for her many patrons.
She is survived by her mother, May Moore of Decatur; her husband of Decatur; daughter, Stacia M. Herdman of Decatur; son, Jay (Melissa) Cook of Decatur; three step-daughters, Alicia (Mike) Jansen; and Sarah (Jeff) Freehill, both of Indianapolis; and Rachel (Kris) Burkhart of Monroe; five grandchildren, Shelby (David Koehler) Herdman; Shayla (fiance, Jacob Meyer) Herdman; Steven Herdman; Nevan Cook; and Faith Cook; and a great-granddaughter, Elianna Meyer.
She was preceded in death by her father; and brother, Kermit Myers.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 8 from 1-4 p.m. at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur. A Tri Kappa service will be held at 4 p.m. directly followed by a funeral service. Officiating will be Pastor Bob Miller.
