Joseph Amstutz

Joseph Lee “Joe” Amstutz, 85, of Berne passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at his residence. He was born September 7, 1934, in Adams County to Jacob “Lee” Amstutz and Mabel Marie (Merriman) Affolder. He was married July 28, 1962, at Bethel Christian Church in Wayne County to Charlene Stewart.
He served his country in the United States Army. He was a faithful member of the Monroe United Methodist Church. He was a past volunteer with the Monroe Fire Department. He was member of Jayland Antique Car Club in Portland and also a member of the Hoosier Mets. He was employed with General Electric in Decatur and was later employed for Haines Drainage of Berne. In addition, he also worked as a Chrysler mechanic for Walt’s Motor Sales in Decatur and also for Hiday Chrysler in Bluffton.
He survived by his wife of Berne, Indiana; two sons, Brian Amstutz; and Curtis (Kemper) Amstutz, both of Berne; and three grandchildren, Gabrielle Amstutz; Benjamin Amstutz; and Joshua Amstutz.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Robert Amstutz; and Glen Amstutz.
Visitation will be Friday, February 21 from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service Saturday, February 22 at Monroe United Methodist Church in Monroe. Officiating will be Pastor David Myers. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in rural Berne.
