John W. Price

John W. Price, 92, of Berne, died early Tuesday morning, August 28, 2018 at Swiss Village. He was born September 6, 1925 in Adams County to Everett and Mabel L. (Fifer) Price. He married Lucy A. (Steed) Lare on December 31, 1977 in Portland. 

He served his country in the United States Army in the Paratrooper 11th Airborne Division during World War II. He was a member of Cross Community Church in Berne and a former member of the church consistory. He was also a member of American Legion Post 468 in Berne, V.F.W. Post 6751 in Geneva, and the Lions Club in Geneva. He was an IU basketball fan, Notre Dame football fan and Chicago Cubs baseball fan. He loved reading war history books and biographies. He enjoyed his time working. 

He retired as a supervisor from CTS in Berne with 32 years of service. In addition, he had worked at Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home and Yager Furniture in Berne for over 40 years until 2014. 

He is survived by his wife of Berne; daughter, Penny (Michael) Byers of Fort Wayne; son, William D. (Karen Beers) Lare of Mount Gilead, Ohio; brother, Earl W. “Gus” (Bert) Price of Bradenton, Florida; five grandchildren, Adam Lare, Chad (Janna) Byers, Molly Lare, Abby Lare and Nathan (McKenzie) Byers; and three great-grandchildren, Bailey, Wyatt and Leyton. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert C. Price; and a sister, Catherine E. Wrightsman. 

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the 2:30 p.m. funeral service on Saturday, September 1 at Swiss Village Chapel. Pastors Chris Kruchkow and Jerry Flueckiger will officiate. Burial will follow at MRE Cemetery with military graveside services to be conducted by American Legion Post 468 of Berne.
