Jerry Douglas

Jerry L. Douglas, 77, of Decatur passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne surrounded by the ones he loved most and was greeted in Heaven by those who loved him first. He was born on July 17, 1942 in Adams County to Thurman and Sarah (Bebout) Douglas. He was married on April 3, 1965 to Sue Noll.
He served his country in the Army National Guard 38 Division for 11 years. He attended Rockford Belle Community Church. He worked at GE in Decatur for 27 years before retiring from Bing Lear in Berne after 11 years of service.
He was a family man and was a father figure to his grandkids and his grandkid's friends. He enjoyed working on and selling bicycles as a hobby. He loved to play dice and cards with friends and family and enjoyed watching Pixel and Hallmark Channel, as well as bird and deer watching. His favorite place to be was in his garage.
He is survived by his wife of Decatur; three daughters, Kim (Doug) Baumann of Ossian; Amy (Cliff Longsworth) Douglas of Berne; and Mendi (R.J.) Strickler of Decatur; son, Brian (Karen) Douglas of Decatur; brother, Ted Douglas of Monroeville; sister, Beverly Welker of Bemidji, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren, Kayla (Taylor Hilyard); Skylar and Logan Douglas; Bailey, Brayton and Grayson Kaehr; Jacob and Claudia Strickler; Jazmen Longsworth; and Bobbie Strawser; and two great-grandchildren, Rhylynn and Jaylynn Hilyard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Connie Sark.
Visitation will be from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 8 and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service on Friday, August 9 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur. Officiating will be Pastor Mike Wertenberger. Burial will be at Decatur Cemetery.
