Jean E. Smith

Jean E. Smith, 88, of Geneva passed away at 2:21 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Swiss Village Retirement Center in Berne. She was born on Wednesday, October 8, 1930 in Jay County to Jessie Raymond and Blanche Katheryn (Wilt) Manning. She was married on Saturday, December 23, 1950 in Berne to Harold D. Smith.

She attended Geneva High School. She was a member the First United Methodist Church in Geneva. She was a homemaker and babysitter and enjoyed collecting dolls. She worked at NASS Canning (Red Gold) in Geneva. She was also a member of the By Card Club at church.

She is survived by two sons, Douglas (Barbara) Smith; and Aaron Dean Smith, both of Geneva; daughter, Jody Smith of Geneva; two daughters-in-law, Tonya Smith; and Windy Smith, both of Geneva; sister, Nadine McWhinney of Columbus, Ohio; brother, William "Bill" Manning of Geneva; 14 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by parents; her husband on February 2, 2011; two sons, David Smith; and Ricky Smith; three brothers, Merritt Manning; Robert Manning; and Junior Manning; and seven sisters, Ileen McCrerry; Peggy Sims; Louise Bosworth; Marine Murphy; Naomi Mann; Wanda Pyle; and Mary Evon.

Visitation was from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 24 at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington St., Geneva. Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 25 at the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Roy Nevil. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Geneva.
