Janice Bauman

Janice “Jan” Bauman, 79, of North Webster passed away Saturday, September 11, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 26, 1941, in Bryant to Dale and Vera (Bergman) Haffner. She was married April 19, 1964, in Portland to Leland Jay Bauman.
She was valedictorian of her 1959 graduating class of Bryant High School and graduated from Ball State University in 1962 earning her registered nurses license. She was a member of North Webster United Methodist Church, where she served as an usher and a greeter. She was the past president of United Methodist Women of Rebekah Circle. In addition, she was a member of the P.E.O. chapter of the E.J. Society in Syracuse, where she served as the secretary. She was also in a local book club in North Webster.
She was employed at Jay County Hospital from 1962-1965 and then went on to start the first medical station from 1965-1967 at CTS in Berne. She taught prenatal classes at Adams Memorial Hospital and was the patient care manager in the obstetrics unit at Adams Memorial Hospital for several years. In addition to her employment, she was the American Red Cross CPR instructor for many years. She retired from Adams Memorial Hospital in 2005 after more than 38 years of service.
She had a heart for others and loved her family deeply. She and her husband will be missed immensely by their family. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and holding babies. She also enjoyed playing scrabble, reading and tending to her flower beds.
She is survived by her daughter, Becky (Bill) Grimm of Berne; son, David (Kristi) Bauman of Monroe; daughter-in-law, Marcia Bauman of Berne; brother, Richard Haffner of Bryant; sister, Norma (Glen) Cash of Pennville; five grandchildren, Landon (Katie) Bauman; Nathan Bauman; Kelsey Bauman; Alise (Nathan) Hess; and Blake Bauman; and five great-grandchildren, Analisse Hess; Matthew Bauman; Kadin Beaman; Sydney Smith; and Chelsea Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on December 2, 2020; son, Matthew Bauman on March 15, 2016; brother, Dick Haffner; and two sisters-in-law, Jackie Haffner; and Donna Haffner.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 15 from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, September 16 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Paul Roger. Burial will be held at a later date at Spring Hill Cemetery.
