Jack Wendel

Jack W. Wendel, 88, of Wabash Township, Jay County (New Corydon) passed away Monday, December 19, 2022, at 2:14 a.m. at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur. He was born Saturday, February 13, 1934, in Clinton County to Vilas and Velda Wendel. He was married Sunday, July 6, 1952, in Portland to Joan Ellsworth.
He was a 1952 graduate of Jefferson Township School. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He later became a tool and die maker. He worked for Central Soya in Decatur and CTS in Berne, where he retired. He had also worked abroad in Taiwan and Scotland. He attended the Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was a member of Berne American Legion. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He taught good gun safety, and he could build anything. He enjoyed his family.
He is survived by his wife of Bryant; two sons, Ronald A. (Joyce) Wendel of The Villages, Florida; and Donald “Donnie” W. (Beth) Wendel of Monroe; son-in-law, Dan Mosier of Willshire, Ohio; five grandchildren, Quentin Berry of Sturgis, Michigan; Miranda Berry of Monroe; Christopher Wendel of Delaware; Kimberly Wendel of West Chester, Pennsylvania; and Shaun Wendel of Greenfield; sister, Betty Patch of Geneva; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Sharyl Mosier; and Stevie J. Wendel; two brothers, Bobby and Jimmy Wendel; and sister, Judy Wendel.
Visitation will be five hours prior to the 7 p.m. funeral service Thursday, December 22 at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington St., Geneva. Officiating will be Rev. Dan Layden. Military rites will be conducted by the Berne American Legion Post Thursday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
