Jack L. O’Dell

Jack L. O'Dell, 88, of Middlebury died at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Elkhart General Hospital surrounded with his children and grandchildren. He was born on December 14, 1930 in Elkhart to Charles A. and Mildred Alice (Books) O'Dell. He was married on January 3, 1953 in Elkhart to Jacqueline J. Gleason.

He was a member the VFW and American Legion Post 210 in Middlebury. He was a 1949 graduate of Elkhart High School and was a Korean War veteran serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1950 to 1953. He received a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Tri State University in 1958. He enjoyed carving, writing poetry, painting and woodworking.

He is survived by two daughters, Debra A. (Randy) Fenwick of Middlebury; and Kathy M. (Jeff) Whitehurst of Berne; two sons, Michael S. (Deb) O'Dell of Berne; and Timothy P. (Vickie) O'Dell of Middlebury; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife on June 19, 2014; brother, Richard O'Dell; and step-mother, Marge O'Dell.

Visitation will be from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9 at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 S. Main St., Middlebury. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 10 at the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Ron Russell. Burial with full military rights will be at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Middlebury.
