Herbert Cook

Herbert E. “Wiggs” Cook, 92, of Decatur went to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at Swiss Village in Berne. He was born October 1, 1928, in Decatur to William and Pearl (Gause) Cook.
He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was very proud of his service in the military. He had worked for Burk Grain Elevator, Stockman’s Grain Elevator and Paul Hakes Mobile Homes.
He loved to repair and do body work on old cars, trucks and bicycles. He enjoyed fishing and carpentry work. He liked watching NASCAR and horse racing. During his time at Swiss Village, he was known and loved as the sweet little man with the broom.  
He is survived by his son, Russell (Becky) Cook of Decatur; daughter, Darlene K. (Russell) Noel of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Mandy (Tony) Heiser; Katie (Joe) Adams; Robert (Patrycja) Tonner; and Andrea (Mason) Yount; and five great-grandchildren, Kevin Cook; Gabby Heiser; Matthew Heiser; Lidia Tonner; and Nathan Tonner.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and 15 siblings, Hazel Johnson; Lester Cook; Jose Hirschy; Virgil Cook; Rosie Lough; Opal Hess; Roy Cook; William Cook; Wilbur Cook; Betty Kipfer; Dale Cook; Fred Cook; Albert Cook; Richard Cook; and Isabel King.
Visitation will be Thursday, September 30 from 2-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the 10 a.m. funeral service Friday, October 1 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur. Officiating will be Pastor Ernie Suman. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #43 of Decatur at the Decatur Cemetery.
