Helen E. Hedington

Helen E. Hedington, 70, of Decatur passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center following a battle with cancer. She was born on July 9, 1948 in Decatur to Enos E. and Mary M. (DeKoninck) Ruhl.  She was united in marriage on November 14, 1970 in Hoagland to Vernon Hedington.

She was a member of the Spring Hill Church in Berne and was on the Women’s Society at church. She worked on the family dairy farm and was a homemaker most of her life. She was also employed at Lincoln Life for nine years and Das Blumenhaus & Midtown Flowers for 12 years.

She enjoyed antiquing, fishing, gardening, flowers and bowling. She was supportive of her grandchildren by watching their many activities. Her grandchildren enjoyed her cooking talents, especially baking cookies and pies.  Her father passed on his love of the Chicago Cubs to her, and she was rewarded with seeing them win a World Series. A close second to her beloved Cubs was the IU Hoosiers.

She is survived by her husband of Decatur; two sons, Kerry W. (Sara) Hedington of Monroe; and Bradley L. (Lindsi) Hedington of Convoy, Ohio; six sisters, Carol A. (Dennis) Young of Huntington; Katherine J. (Larry) Minich of Hoagland; Ruth M. (Charles) Litchfield of Monroeville; and Clara M. (Jesse) Serna; Donna M. (John) Garner; and Lorie A. (Daniel) Hammond, all of Decatur; and five grandchildren, Klarissa, Desiree, Miranda, Brayden, and Gracie Hedington.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Margaret Ruhl.                  

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 800 p.m. on Monday, July 30 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31 at Spring Hill Church, 2352E 400S, Berne with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Pastor Bill Hull. Burial will be at Spring Hill/Backesto Cemetery.
