Harriet J. Soldner

Harriet J. Soldner, 91, of Decatur passed away on Friday, August 17, 2018 at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur. She was born on January 6, 1927 in Metamora, Illinois to Arthur H. and Esther E. (Strubhar) Schertz. She was married on August 26, 1950 to Frederick J. Soldner.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and served with the United Methodist Women, was a lifelong member of the choir, helped with funeral dinners, volunteered with Meals On Wheels, and also served on many community activities. She taught health and physical education at Adams Central School and retired in 1983 from Bellmont Middle School, where she taught home economics.

She is survived by three sons, Timothy J. (Melissa) Soldner; and Jeffrey A. (Karen) Soldner, both of Fort Wayne; and John F. (Trina) Soldner of Estero, Florida; daughter, Sue A. (Kevin) Wills of Celina, Ohio; sister, Dorothy Hostetler of Dublin, Ohio; sister-in-law, Claudene Schertz of Metamora, Illinois; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on July 20, 2017; two sisters, Kay Davis; and Ruth Sands; and two brothers, Arthur Schertz; and her twin, Harold Schertz.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur and from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Haggard-Sefton-Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home in Decatur on Wednesday, August 22 and one hour prior to the 10:00 a.m. funeral service on Thursday, August 23 at First United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Pastor Amy Covington. Burial will be at Decatur Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, the Frederick J. and Harriet J. Soldner Scholarship Fund or the Bluffton College Scholarship Fund.
