Hannah Schaadt-Amstutz

Hannah Ruth Schaadt-Amstutz, 92, of Berne, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Swiss Village in Berne surrounded by her family. She was born July 17, 1930, in Bluffton to Edgar and Savilla (Roth) Habegger. She was married Sep. 3, 1950, at Cross Community Church in Berne to Tom Schaadt. He preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 1981. She was married Jan. 12, 2002, at First Missionary Church to Richard Amstutz. He preceded her in death on July 17, 2022.
She was a longtime faithful member of First Missionary Church in Berne and former member of Cross Community Church. One of her most notable acts of service within the church was her service to the funeral meal committee. Her deviled eggs and coleslaw were famous within her church family.
From a young age, a strong work ethic was instilled. She was employed at Berco Overall for 10 years before working at CTS for 29 years. Additionally, she worked at the Amishville Restaurant and cleaned offices and houses in Berne. However, her greatest joy was being a homemaker and serving both her family and the family of her husband, Richard.
Family was at the heart of everything she did. She cherished each moment spent with family, having a particular soft spot for her grandchildren. She was a talented baker, and family and friends always looked forward to delicious meals and treats. Among her many talents, she could cultivate beautiful flower gardens and vegetable garden.
She is survived by three daughters, Charlotte Hedrick of LaFountain; Jane (Ed) Millhouse of Garrett; and Theresa Brown of Berne; son, Henry (Penny) Schaadt of Berne; two stepsons, Michael Amstutz of Fort Wayne; and Randall (Michelle) Amstutz of Berne; stepdaughter, Deborah Wilson of Berne; sister, Sara (Robert) Amstutz of Granada Hills, California; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; and numerous step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Howard, Benjamin, Chester, Paul and Alvin Habegger; and two sisters, Eldonna Amstutz; and Catherine Smith.
Visitation will be Friday, May 5 from 4-8 p.m. at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service Saturday, May 6 at First Missionary Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Rick Schwartz and Pastor Jim Schwartz. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in rural Berne.
