George Balsiger

George G. Balsiger, 89, of Berne passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at Swiss Village in Berne. He was born June 3, 1933, in Adams County to Jesse and Velma (Habegger) Balsiger. He was married July 28, 1957, to Vera Neuenschwander.
He was a quality control supervisor at Franklin Electric in Bluffton and retired in 1997 after 40 years of service. He was a corporal in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the Chungcheong region. He was a member of American Legion Post 468 and a former member of the Berne Conservation Club. He attended West Missionary Church.
He loved animals and the beauty of nature, which he routinely photographed. He raised almost every kind of farm animal from abandoned baby lambs to Guinea chickens. He had a special love of horses and spent much of his spare time training and caring for them. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish. He was also an amazing woodworker and made many wood creations which he shared with his family.
He is survived by two daughters, Tammy (Kevin) Shupenia; and Teri (Shawn) Walsh, both of Berne; three grandchildren, Holly (Michael) Wenger; and Sam Walsh, both of Berne; and Brandon (Taryn) Liechty of South Bend; and four great-grandchildren, Silas and Selah Wenger; and Lewis and Elaine Liechty.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters, Annabelle (Wayne) Dubach; and Betty (Burt) Vannette; and brother, Herman (Phyllis) Balsiger.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the 1 p.m. funeral service Sunday, April 3 at the Swiss Village auditorium in Berne. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
