Gene Amstutz

Gene D. Amstutz, 90, former Monroe businessman, passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Swiss Village in Berne. He was born December 3, 1931, in Berne to Homer and Hilda (Moser) Amstutz. He was married August 3, 1951, to Dorothy J. Farlow.
Prior to illness, he attended Geneva High Street Church in Geneva. During his lifetime, he served as a trustee and board member at several different churches.
He graduated from Geneva High School as class valedictorian in 1949. He continued his schooling at Fort Wayne Bible College and with many other professional classes where he earned his tool and die apprenticeship and his manufacturing engineer title.
He was employed at Felber Machine Shop and CTS in Berne as a machinist, foreman and tooling engineer. He and his wife also owned and managed Triple A, Inc. in Monroe from 1976 until his retirement.
He was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with his extensive family. He loved taking nature walks with his family and his many dogs over the years. He loved music, especially hymns of his faith. Most importantly, he loved and served God faithfully and modeled that for his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of Berne; three sons, Leon (Anne) Amstutz of Elkhart; Jerry (Denise) Amstutz of Mishawaka; and Brian (Lisa) Amstutz of Danville, Kentucky; two daughters, Suanne (Wayne) Shidler of Shepherd, Michigan; and Judy (Jeff) Springer of South Bend; sister, Carol Hill of Huntington; brother, Larry (Pat) Amstutz of Fort Wayne; sister-in-law, Norene Bollinger of Waynesville, North Carolina; 17 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren with one great-grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bernadine Zurcher; and three brothers-in-law, John Zurcher; Bill Hill; and Phil Bollinger.
The body will be cremated, and there will be no viewing per his wishes. Visitation will be two hours prior to the 12 p.m. memorial service Saturday, December 3 at Swiss Village Chapel in Berne. Officiating will be Rev. Wayne Shidler.
