Gary Knipstein

Gary L. Knipstein, 64, of Hoagland passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born February 26, 1958, in Fort Wayne to Walter Knipstein and Florence Jane (Smith) Knipstein. He was married June 20, 1980, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne to Michelle Littig.
He graduated from Heritage High School class of 1976. He was a member of Zion Friedheim Lutheran Church. He was employed at Foamex in Waynedale in production before retiring in 2011.
He loved his family and his grandchildren very much. He enjoyed a good joke, playing cards especially Euchre, and baking his famous carrot cake. He was a St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
He is survived by his wife of Hoagland; two daughters, Heidi (James) Wilkinson of Decatur; and Laura (Chris) Ianucilli of Fort Wayne; son, Matthew (Michelle) Knipstein of Hoagland; brother, DeWayne (Carole) Knipstein of Hoagland; sister, Joyce Bland of Fort Wayne; mother-in-law, Pearl Littig  of Jacksonville, Illinois; seven grandchildren, Hunter, Analise, Madison, Samantha, Wyatt, Callen and Lillian; and two step-grandchildren, Dominic and Vinny.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Vena Mart.
Visitation will be Friday, October 14 from 3-5 and 6-8 p.m. at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, October 15 at Zion Friedheim Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Pastor Daniel Dahling. Burial will be held at a later date at Zion Friedheim Lutheran Church Cemetery.
