Galen Sprunger

Galen A. Sprunger, 92, of Berne passed away on Friday, December 13, 2019 at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born on September 6, 1927 to Robert and Marguerite (Golliver) Fox. She was married on November 28, 1946 to Bruce W. Sprunger.
She graduated from Berne High School and was the valedictorian of her graduating class of 1945. She received an associate’s degree in business from International Business College in Fort Wayne. She began her employment at Berne Overall & Shirt Co. that later became Berco in Berne. She was the bookkeeper for her husband who was a Standard Oil agent. During that time, she was also a stay at home mother. In 1976, she was elected Adams County treasurer and served for eight years and then continued to serve as an employee of the treasurer’s office for another four years. During her time as Adams County treasurer, she served as vice-president for the Indiana State Treasurer’s Association. Upon retirement, she enjoyed spending time at their lake cottage in the summer and with her daughter in Florida in the winter. She was a member of Cross Community Church in Berne and the Women’s Guild at her church. She was also a member of Swiss Village Home Demonstration Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Audrey (Larry) Cluppert of Wautoma Wisconsin; and LaDonna (Jim) Smith of Fort Myers, Florida; two sons; Russell (Hope) Sprunger of Sherwood, Oregon; and Larry (Cindy) Sprunger of Berne; brother, Walter George (Helen) Fox of Berne; 16 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on March 13, 2016; brother, Charles Richard Fox; sister, Mary Lou Wisel; son-in-law, Larry Cluppert; and grandson, Scott Smith.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the 11 a.m. memorial service on Saturday, January 11 at Cross Community Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Chris Kruchkow. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
