Ethel Stimpson

Ethel Stimpson, 102, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 29, 2018. She was born in Boston’s North End to Alphonse and Elizabeth Barbato. She was married to Paul G. Stimpson.

One of nine children, she grew up in Stoughton, Massachusetts and attended Stoughton schools. She entered the workforce as a stitcher for her father. After marriage, she moved to Abington, Massachusetts and raised her four sons. She worked for many years as a stitcher for the former Tots Togs in Abington. She was an active member of the Abington Firefighters Auxiliary for many years. She was known for her fabulous Italian cooking.

She is survived by four sons, Richard Stimpson of Decatur; Paul Stimpson, Jr. of Abington, Massachusetts; Jon “Joe” Stimpson of New York; and Anthony Stimpson of Rockland, Massachusetts. She was the matriarch of an extended family that numbered over 40 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband.

The family held a private service.
