Emma “Irene” Sprunger

Emma “Irene” Sprunger, 96, of Berne passed away at 1:00 a.m. on Monday, May 14, 2018 at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born on May 20, 1921 in Jay County to Joseph A. and Jessie (Peel) Cline. She was married on May 8, 1938 to Arley Sprunger.

She attended Geneva Nazarene Church and First Missionary Church in Berne. She was employed at Fern’s Dress Shop. She enjoyed cake decorating, flowers, gardening, crafts, and crocheting.

She is survived by her son, Rev. Allen (Gloria) Sprunger of Saginaw, Michigan; two daughters, Diana Herman of Bluffton; and Wanda Jesfield of Berne; daughter-in-law, Willa K. Sprunger of Berne; sister, Iris Cook of Geneva; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1991; son, Leland Sprunger; and five brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be three hours prior to the 1:00 p.m. funeral service on Friday, May 18 at Swiss Village Chapel in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Wilbur Taylor. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery in Geneva.
