Elmer Scare

Elmer Karl Scare, 87, of Lincoln, Illinois formerly of Geneva, passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at St. Clara's Rehab Center in Lincoln, Illinois. He was born August 6, 1935, in Willshire Township, Van Wert County, Ohio to Karl and Willihemia Cathryn (Hinck) Scare. He was married April 21, 1957, to Kathryn Esibell Burkhart.
He was a member of First Missionary Church in Berne, where he served as an usher for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Korea. He was an upholsterer specializing in repairs. He worked for Dunbar Furniture, Smith Furniture and Berne Furniture. He left an impact on everyone he ever met with his generosity and kindness. He loved spending time with his friends and family. After recovering from a cancer diagnosis, he and his wife traveled extensively, especially enjoying cruises.
He is survived by his sister, Elmyra Wolfe; brother, Phillip Scare; and two cousins, Tom and Mary Anderson with whom he made his home prior to entering St. Clara's Rehab.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife on December 2, 2018; two step-brothers, Jerry Flueckiger; and Ed Lane; and brother, Dave Scare.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the 12 p.m. funeral service Thursday, September 15 at First Missionary Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Rick Schwartz and Pastor Dathen Foust. Burial will be at Backesto Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to First Missionary Church or Geneva Fire Department.
