Elmer D. Schwartz

Elmer D. Schwartz, 79, of Berne passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at his residence. He was born on June 11, 1939 in Berne to David L. and Sovilla (Wengerd) Schwartz. He was married to Emma Graber. 

He was a member of the Old Order Amish.  He was the founder and former owner of Schwartz Manufacturing in Berne.

He is survived by his wife of Berne; six sons, Amos E.L. (Marilyn) Schwartz; Milo E.L. (Lorene) Schwartz; Roman E.L. (Marlene) Schwartz; and Stephen E.L. (Anna) Schwartz, all of Monroe; and Ben E.L. (Carolyn) Schwartz; and Amzie E.L. (Rosie) Schwartz, both of Berne; four daughters,  Sovilla E.L. (Leroy) Hilty; Martha E.L. (Merlin) Hilty; and Adeline E.L. (Noah) Schwartz, all of Monroe; and Miriam E.L. (Amos) Schwartz of Bluffton; sister, Edna (Joe) Miller; 52 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Roman D. Schwartz; Ernest D. Schwartz; and Harvey D. Schwartz; a stillborn sister; and a stillborn grandson.

Visitation was from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2 and will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 3 at the Ben Schwartz residence, 1787W 200S, Berne. Funeral services will be at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 4 at the Ben Schwartz residence. Officiating will be Bishop Mervin C. Hilty. Burial will be at Winchester Cemetery in rural Monroe.
