Elaine Liechty

Elaine S. Liechty, 62, of Geneva passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2022, at Swiss Village in Berne. She was born August 31, 1959, in Decatur to Raymond and Marjorie (Norr) Zurcher. She was married January 13, 1990, at First Mennonite Church in Berne to Mike Liechty.
She was a faithful member of First Mennonite Church in Berne. She taught Sunday school for many years, helped with MCC Meat Canner, quilting committee and assisted in the children’s nursery. She was employed at Caylor-Nickel Hospital in the business office for over 19 years with many years of perfect attendance. She assisted her husband with caring for MRE Cemetery and also played an essential role on their farm.
Following her auto accident in 1997, she quilted over 140 quilts for the church’s ministries. She always placed others ahead of her own needs and would often send words of encouragement through cards. She always showed gratification for others who offered their assistance. She enjoyed gardening, her flowers and doing many word search puzzles. During her stay at Swiss Village, she enjoyed playing Bingo and Uno.
She is survived by her mother of Berne; her husband of Geneva; brother, Dwight Zurcher of Berne; sister, Susan (Brian) Culy of Linn Grove; mother-in-law, Betty Liechty of Berne; two sisters-in-law, Audrey (Dan) Chapman of Carmel; and Lori (Jud) Myers of Berne; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father; and father-in-law, Chris Liechty.
Visitation will be Saturday, May 14 from 2-8 p.m. at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne and one hour prior to the 2 p.m. funeral service Sunday, May 15 at First Mennonite Church in Berne. Officiating will be Pastor Jim Schwartz, Pastor Kent Norr and Marie Nussbaum. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne.
