Dorothy Hofstetter

Dorothy Joyce Hofstetter, 82, of Berne, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 13, 2018 at Swiss Village-Sonnenblum in Berne. She was born on August 16, 1936 in Pasadena, California to William and Mary (Wickham) Fabrin. She was married on June 21, 1957 to Lyman Keith Hofstetter.

She was a graduate of John Muir Junior College, Pasadena City College and Indiana University-Purdue University. She taught first grade at South Adams Elementary School for 28 years. She was known for her creativity, her sewing ability, her flower gardens and her love of teaching children. Her love for all creatures, great and small, was known to all that knew her.

She is survived by two daughters, Deanne (Joseph) Umpleby of Phoenix, Arizona; and Skye Zuza (Jeanette Hofstetter) of Columbus, Ohio; son, Brian Hofstetter; and grandson, Cody Umpleby.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Johnson; and Geneva Yale.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the 11:00 a.m. celebration of life service on Friday, July 26 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne.

Memorials may be made to Berne Elementary School, Emmaus Road Mennonite Fellowship in Berne or Smith Veterinary Hospital in Berne.
