Dorothy Burnett

Dorothy Burnett, 96, of rural Spencerville, Ohio passed away peacefully at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, December 3, 2018 at Roselawn Manor in Spencerville, Ohio. She was born on September 2, 1922 in Jennings Township, Van Wert County, Ohio the youngest and last surviving of 18 children of Frederick and Emma Adeline (McKinley) Louth. She was married on January 10, 1943 to Gerald O. Burnett.

She retired in 1984 as an inspector at the former Hayes-Albion Corp. in Spencerville, Ohio and had worked in a nursing home in Van Wert, Ohio prior to that. She was a member of the Kingsley United Methodist Church near Van Wert, Ohio. She loved being with family and greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and her dogs, gardening, her flowers and quilting.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas (Linda) Burnett of Venedocia, Ohio; and Jeffrey (Cheryl) Burnett of Spencerville, Ohio; two daughters, Alice Burnett of Spencerville, Ohio; and Patricia (Harold) Gaerke of Geneva; sister-in-law; Vera Burnett of Spencerville, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, Missi and Brad Counts; Tracy and Shane Clark; Stephanie and Shawn Monroe; Daniel and Nikki Burnett; Leslie and Brandon Suever; Oakland and Ashley Gaerke; Sadie and Andy Kirk; Andy and Melissa Burnett; Bryan and Sarah Burnett; Justin and Ashley Burnett; and Jennifer Burnett; 23 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on December 11, 1997; daughter; Darlene (Ned) Siemer; an infant son Daniel Burnett; grandchild, Timothy Siemer; nine brothers, Walter, Roy, Raymond, Floyd, Maurice, Carl, Richard, Howard and infant James; and eight sisters, Clara Meihls; Irene Gase; Inez Kill; Ruth Detrick; infant Edna; Mabel Reynolds; Myrtle Jones; and Jennie Axe.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 7 and one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, December 8 at Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home in Spencerville, Ohio. Officiating will be Pastor Andrew J. Atkins. Burial will be at Wright Cemetery near Converse, Ohio.
