Doris Zeissig

Doris “Eileen” Zeissig, 102, passed away Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024, surrounded by her family at home. She was born Sep. 27, 1921, in Berne to Leslie and Elma Stuckey.
She graduated from nursing school in 1943 and enlisted in the U.S. Army during WWII as a nurse. After being discharged in 1946, she went to work at Lutheran Hospital. In 1947, she married Werner Zeissig, who had also served in the military, and they spent 54 years together before his passing. Together, they shared five children and raised their family on a small farm near Roanoke. She was a caregiver through and through. In her spare time, she enjoyed singing, painting, traveling and golfing.
She is survived by her four children, Tom (Marcy) Zeissig; Gary Zeissig; Sue (Dennis) Oberlie; and Jon (Cindy) Zeissig; daughter-in-law, Kathy Zeissig; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, Steve Zeissig; and three brothers, Leslie Jr., Gaylord and Wayne Stuckey.
She also leaves behind numerous friends to cherish her memory.
A private family service will be held.
