Doris Foster

Gone but not forgotten, Doris Elaine Foster, 80, passed away Saturday, Dec. 23, 2023, at 9:06 a.m. following an extended illness at her residence in North Manchester — the same day in which her husband was born.
She was a farmer’s daughter, a wife, a mother, a caretaker and your best friend. She was born July 4, 1943, to David and Irene (Affolder) Schindler. In 1961, she was in the graduating class from Geneva High School.
She was married in 1962 at the West Missionary Church in Berne to Richard Foster. The newlyweds resided at Selfridge Air Force Base on the banks of Lake St. Claire just north of Detroit, Michigan. Following the completion of his service to the United States Air Force as an air traffic controller, they returned to Berne.
They were the owners of Hilldale Motel and Mobile Home Park in Wabash for 46 years, raising four children who also were devoted helpers to the family. They include two daughters, Kathleen (Curt) Hullinger; and Jennifer Foster, both of North Manchester; and two sons, Jeffery (Stephanie) Foster of LaFontaine; and Michael (Toni) Foster of Warsaw. Her children blessed her with six grandchildren, Clarence Hullinger; Kathryn Hullinger; Mitchell Foster; Allie Foster; Waverly Foster; and Adilynn Foster. She is also survived by her oldest brother, Arthur Schindler of Berne; and sister-in-law, Carolyn Schindler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on Feb. 2, 1982; and two brothers, William Schindler; and Gary Schindler.
Visitation will be two hours prior to the 2:30 p.m. funeral service Thursday, Dec. 28 at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Homes, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne. Officiating will be with life celebrant Dave McIntire. Burial will be at MRE Cemetery in Berne next to her husband.
